Celeste Groenewald

Celeste Groenewald

Celeste Groenewald was born in Kimberley in South Africa in 1992. She spent much of her childhood perusing the small town's extensive library, and her trips to its museums nurtured her interest in natural history. Celeste has always been interested in the craftsmanship of image-making. Having internalised Francisco de Goya's etchings at a young age, she wants to give form to intangible dream imagery and emotions. Celeste's favourite elective in high school was visual art. In 2012, she began her four-year Bachelor's course in Fine Art at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. She still lives and works there.  After completing her degree in 2015, Celeste began exploring and experimenting with a variety of media. She was commissioned to illustrate and design the layout of a book in 2017 and worked at Oliewenhuis Art Museum for a year as a Museum Guide. There, she co-curated an exhibition with her colleagues.
