Based in the coastal town of Emsworth, Daniel Tidbury began his artistic practice in 2016. Originally a freelance graphic designer and commercial photographer, he sought a physical release from digital work through bold acrylic paintings. His early portfolio is defined by expressive, free-flowing strokes that capture the energy of seascapes and skyscapes, utilizing vibrant colors and dramatic movement on canvas. Tidbury’s practice has since evolved into an exploration of fluid dynamics and macro observation. By experimenting with acrylic pouring, chemical dispersion, and mixtures of resin and PVA, he creates works that mirror aerial views of the earth. His most recent series bridges his photographic and painterly skills, capturing high-detail textures found on the hulls of small boats. These images, though photographic in origin, are produced as Giclée prints on archival paper to maintain a soft, painterly aesthetic.

Visual voice

Tidbury’s work is characterized by organic, unpredictable patterns that emerge from chemical reactions and natural weathering. His aesthetic shifts between broad, expressive brushwork and macro photography that reveals hidden shorelines and horizons within industrial textures.
