Spanish figurative painter Alexander Grahovsky was born in Alicante and has been living and working in Madrid since 2007. Having studied under the tutelage of Luisa Pallarés, Nathaniel Evans, Eloy Morales, and Alejandro Carpintero, his practice is rooted in a deep understanding of the human form. Since 2012, his work has been exhibited internationally in cities including London, Barcelona, and Madrid. His paintings are defined by a unique stillness, capturing subjects who look without looking. While his interior scenes suggest the quiet tension found in the works of Hopper, Grahovsky diffuses this atmosphere with a sense of humor. He often integrates gestures of fashion and the lighthearted nature of children’s play to balance the environmental threat within his frames.

Visual voice

Grahovsky’s work is characterized by figurative portraits set within interior scenes that evoke a sense of suspended time. His aesthetic balances a subtle environmental threat with the humor of fashion-forward gestures and motifs of play.
