Nicola Mountney Art

Nicola Mountney is from London. She worked for a major London costumiers, specialising in period costume for film and television. She created many exhibitions in museums and historic houses throughout Europe and the USA. Nicola then moved to Tuscany in 2006 where she ran a Buddhist retreat centre in the Apennine mountains not far from Florence. Nicola spent 10 years studying Buddhist thangka (scroll) painting and has moved on to develop a unique style of painting with a strong emphasis on colour and detail, moving away from the constrictions of iconographic painting. She became interested in the complex landscapes found in ancient thangka paintings, taking tiny fragments which became inspiration for her own work. Her travels to Asia led her in the direction of creating a fusion of East and West, forming the basis of her work. Nicola is inspired by the Italian artist Guiseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining), 1688-1766 who incorporated Western-style painting into Chinese art and in doing so became one of the greatest court painters in China. Solo exhibitions have been in England and Italy. Nicola has collectors in Europe, Asia and USA. and through Saatchi Art.
