The composition utilizes a wide landscape orientation to emphasize the vastness of the terrain and the isolation of the baobab. By positioning the camera to face the setting sun, the artist strips away surface detail, focusing instead on the architectural complexity of the tree's limbs. The heavy, grounded base of the trunk provides a sense of permanence, while the finer branches spread out like a nervous system against the glowing sky.

Light serves as the primary structural element here, defining the boundary between the earth and the atmosphere. The gradient of the sunset creates a soft backdrop that pushes the dark form of the tree into the foreground, highlighting the rugged profile of the bark and the irregular geometry of the canopy. It is a study in shape and negative space, where the emptiness of the sky is just as vital as the solid form of the wood.
