Art Analysis
From the artist, BNJ Photo
In August 2016, I do a 10 day Vipassana retreat, an intensive meditation technique. The exercise, difficult but instructive, plunges me into an introspection and leads me to relativize my relationship to time and things.
I learn Anytia: it is Impermanence, what is temporary. It is a universal law that applies to everything. Everything changes. Everything is evolving. Everything dies.
This simple observation frees the mind, which can now accommodate any situation, good or bad, with detachment. This is called equanimity. It is the basis of meditation.
To evoke it, I take pictures of meditators in places of everyday life for about fifteen minutes, with a snapshot per minute. I then assemble them to represent life in motion, different relationships to time, change and observation.
Work in progress.
