Art Analysis
From the artist, Melanie Viola
Overlapping grey and gold layers
This vertical composition is built from light grey organic shapes that occupy the corners and right side, set against a grainy off-white background. The eye moves across the center where thin grey lines loop over smaller gold-colored shapes. These gold elements have a metallic texture and appear alongside vertical streaks and cross-hatched marks that are scattered toward the edges. The arrangement follows the minimalistic and modern mid-century style the artist describes, using a mix of solid forms and fine details.
A closer look reveals a small section of grey diagonal stripes near the center and a cluster of grey dots tucked into the upper right corner. These patterned areas contrast with the larger, smooth grey shapes and the rougher texture of the gold marks. The thin lines weave through the different layers, connecting the metallic center to the lighter grey forms on the periphery.
As the third piece in this series, it continues the use of gold and grey tones found in Mid-Century Vintage No. 1 and No. 2.
