Art Analysis
From the artist, Melanie Viola
Stacked circles and diagonal lines
This composition centers on a vertical column of three large round shapes against a plain white background. Thin black lines cut diagonally across the frame, reaching toward the corners and passing through the central stack. The top and bottom circles feature dense black squiggles and concentric rings, while the middle circle stands out with a gold texture and a smooth gradient that shifts from grey to yellow. Large, empty wireframe circles overlap these main forms, adding layers to the arrangement.
Small details are scattered throughout the work, such as clusters of black dots and thin white lines that sit both in front of and behind the larger shapes. While the artist describes the work as having a noble atmosphere, the visual structure relies on the contrast between the solid gold-textured center and the patterned black-and-white circles above and below it. The thin diagonal lines create a sense of movement that connects the central shapes to the edges of the picture.
This piece is part of a series that includes Posh Design No. 2 | gold, continuing the use of metallic tones and graphic shapes found in that work.
