In this study of the American West, Holgate focuses on the structural elegance of desert life. The portrait orientation allows the eye to climb from the sun-baked earth through layers of scrub and stone, creating a sense of immersion within the dry, open air. There is a tactile quality to the rendering, where the harshness of the terrain is balanced by a soft, natural palette that suggests the fleeting light of a late afternoon.

By isolating these rustic elements, the artist invites a closer look at the patterns formed by wind and heat. The landscape is not merely a backdrop but a character defined by its endurance. Every line and shadow works to document the stillness of a place that feels untouched by haste, offering a grounded view of the natural world's unadorned geometry.
