In this vertical composition, Marja van den Hurk explores a dense, layered environment that merges the depths of the sea with the tangled vitality of a rainforest. The central figure of the fish is enveloped by organic shapes and patterns that mimic both swaying seaweed and tropical foliage, creating a sense of quiet, constant motion. The portrait orientation emphasizes the upward reach of these botanical forms, drawing the eye through a rich tapestry of overlapping textures.

The work invites a slow observation of its intricate details, where every curve and line contributes to a dreamlike atmosphere. By placing an aquatic subject within such a heavy, verdant setting, the artist challenges traditional perspectives on habitat, offering instead a vision of nature that is interconnected and fluid. The result is a grounded yet imaginative study of life thriving in a hidden, shadowed corner of the natural world.
